Commonwealth Motors Showroom in Phillip comprised both Holden & Mitsubishi brands.  This project was to build a new building on the southern end of the site to house the Mitsubishi New Cars Division.  The project firstly required the demolition of the existing used car building to allow for the construction to proceed.

The building consists of a series of precast wall panels along the south boundary and the east wall, concrete filled Blockwork along the front and around the underfloor stormwater retention tanks.  Half of the concrete floor is on the ground with the other half suspended on precast concrete floor beams.  The front façade is predominantly double glazing, built to the new Section J energy efficiency code.  The building has a metal deck insulated roof and alucobond facia panels.

The floor is tiled in the new Mitsubishi Motors ceramic tiles.  Internally there are offices for the new car & used car sales teams with the normal amenities that go with a building of this type.  The existing Mitsubishi entry off Melrose Drive was closed off and a new entry provided to the new building.

INNOVATION:

Being part of a working used car lot it was imperative that the site be well protected to ensure the adjacent used cars were not damaged at the same time providing as much space for the used cars given a large section of the lot was reduced to house the new showroom.  The two large under slab water tanks were installed to supplement the water required by the business to wash & detail both the new & used cars through a new car wash the client was installing.
