Gerald Slaven Volkswagen
The construction of a new Volkswagen Showroom including; the demolition of an existing building back to slab level, the removal of the existing forecourt concrete and perimeter fence, civil works to re-grade the forecourt area and relocate the stormwater pit, construction of a new concrete showroom slab, erection of the structural steel portal frame, metal deck roofing, external cladding, full height curtain wall glazing, new mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services, internal fit-out incorporating ceramic tiling, joinery and feature plasterboard colonnade.
INNOVATION:
Rendered Greenboard cladding was used as an alternative to rendered brickwork and provided the project with a cost and programme saving, and improved insulation performance figures.
The original design included an expensive, automated external blind to provide shade to the northern elevation glazing. The glass was changed to a much higher performance specification, which in turn allowed for the deletion of the external blind. The innovation not only met the Section J requirements of the BCA, but saved the project time, and cost and allowed the Client’s showroom vehicles to be viewed at all times of the day.
